Cow (I Mean...Car) Trippin'

What time is it? Adventure time!

Today I am taking a short break from all of the cleaning and decorating and moving to go look at other things I can clean, decorate, and move with.... today Hannah and I went to Ikea!

I wanted to look for a rug for our rec room, which I've finally started to (kind of) make progress on. Our rec room will be where I can work out on the elliptical, keep an eye on the laundry, and hang out in the summer when the weather starts to get warm, or while Aaron and his friends take over the living room.

Recently, it's been looking like this.... which isn't pretty. I'm still putting boxes into the storage unit, and putting some Target furniture together (bookshelves, a coffee table and a cabinet). I have figured out where I want everything to go, though, which is more than I could say for a while there. Now it's just a matter of getting it there.

The problem is that while I kind of like the fake parquet flooring, it just doesn't work for bare feet. We have the litter boxes hidden away in the laundry room, but little bits of the stuff manage to make their way into the rec room constantly. And bare feet + litter on the bare floor = little bits of litter stuck to the bottoms of your feet. Ew.

So off to Ikea we go, to see how much rug I can buy on a budget. And what kind of rug.. I don't want a plain Jane rug, but with my coffee table being electric teal, it can't really be a loud rug, either.

Eventually this space will be nice and cleaned up (maybe next week??), and while we may still be missing a futon (for me to relax on and for overnight guests), it will be a million times better than that mess.

We decided to take the scenic route, since tolls are ridiculous these days (and who carries that much change these days??), and just enjoy the trip. We made a few pit stops on the way, went through a lot less construction than the highway, and enjoyed the warm weather.

And then the real excitement began. Ikea, welcoming into its bright yellow and blue arms. There were a ton of things we wanted to buy, or thought were funky. But we weren't there for frivolous stuff (dear lord knows we both have more than enough superfluous garbage). Hannah took some pictures of some of the designs they had around the store that we liked. Each one is really different from the others, but we loved each one the same.

Eventually, we made our way to the rugs. Though I wasn't a huge fan of some of the prices, I found several rugs I liked, and thought might fit the space, or finish it off perfectly. But of course, there were others that I liked, but would look absolutely horrendous in the space. I'll just have to drag Aaron out there one of these days to see what he thinks.

I'm leaning towards a soft grey shag rug or a geometric black and white rug. Both would bring interest and warmth to the room, but the geometric one may be a bit overwhelming in the space.

I did end buying a few smaller rugs for the laundry room (not exactly my original plan, but...), and also managed to fill two carts with none other than frivolous garbage (but I managed to spend way less than expected, which is always good!).

After Ikea, we headed over to Joe's Crabshack for dinner. Hannah had never been! We both got delicious food and drinks, and then split a dessert.

After dinner, we headed home to relax and unwind. We sped off into the sunset, phones dying, bellies full.

Not a shabby way to spend my day off at all! Now it's back to business on getting this apartment ready for summer barbecues and hangouts. On to unpacking these bags and figuring out how in the world I'm going to have this place ready for when everyone is over for Mother's Day.....
